40,000-acre fire destroys cafe near Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash. — A wildfire that raged across at least 62 1/2 square miles has destroyed a well-known cafe east of Yakima. A Benton County Emergency Services information officer, Elizabeth Smith, says the Silver Dollar Cafe at the intersection of State Routes 24 and 241 east of Moxee went up in smoke Friday evening. Rick and Martha Lounsbury of Terrace Heights, who bought the cafe about a year ago, have not been available for comment. Their business was in the path of the Dry Creek fire complex, the largest of a series of range fires across central Washington in recent days. More than 250 firefighters have been dispatched to try to put out the flames.
