Gourmet Way’s move means space for cooking demos

A kitchen for cooking demonstrations will be added as Gourmet Way moves to Hayden Creek Plaza (8222 Government Way) on Sept. 1. The kitchenware, giftware, custom gift basket, wine and ale shop has been at 6848 Government Way for 10 years.

Gourmet Way has a wine club that invites members to special events and with special purchases while familiarizing them with wines from around the world. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 10 to 5 Saturdays. Phone (208) 762-1333.

New apartment building at Fourth and Anton

Construction has begun on a two-level, 15-unit apartment building at 2909 Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene. Owner George Mitchell said it should be complete for tenants in early spring.

Named the Royal Arms II (he already has a Royal Arms complex on Front Avenue), it will comprise 11 one-bedroom units and four with two bedrooms. Some will have lofts. With garden plots and carports included on the one-acre parcel, the mid-range complex should be attractive to senior citizens, Mitchell said. Contact him at (208) 661-8572.

Badger Building plans fourth store

Badger Building Center is planning its fourth regional store with the acquisition of a 4.3-acre parcel in Bonners Ferry. With construction depending on the economy, the new store will be across from KG&T Plumbing on U.S. Highway 95 a mile south of Three Mile.

The new store will employ up to 12 people. Owner Lee Badger’s parents, Mike and Sandy Badger, started the company in Sandpoint in 1983. That store moved to Sagle, and others have been started in Post Falls and Kalispell.

This week’s tidbits

•Ah. This week is the Kootenai County Fair. After admission, nearly everything is free with entertainment on the KXLY Stage, the Midway, the Cascade Tractor Corral and, of course, the rodeo grounds and demolition derby. For supervised kids there’s the petting farm, pony rides, critter corner and Family Fun Park. Then there’s all the rides, animal judging and stock sale, exhibit halls and a super variety of foods. •Seminars on nine topics will be offered at the Coeur d’Alene School of Woodworking, 4951 Building Center Drive, September through November. With two sessions for each class, topics include a router seminar, bandsaw techniques, gluing and clamping, lathe work and tool sharpening, bench chisel and plane iron sharpening, sanding techniques, table saws, scroll saws and finishing techniques.
