In brief: Uniformed men kill 12 on reserve

From Wire Reports

Bogota, Colombia – Hooded men in uniforms without insignias on Wednesday shot and killed 12 members of the Awa indigenous group, including five children, on a reserve in a region plagued by the cocaine trade, authorities said.

Indigenous leaders and government officials said 10 gunmen opened fire on two houses in the Gran Rosario reserve, about 50 miles inland from the port of Tumaco in Narino state.

Narino state prosecutor Alvaro Lara said the gunmen asked for a woman called “The Matron” about a purported debt.

Police: Suspects stole border fence

Tijuana, Mexico – Police in the Mexican border city of Tijuana say they have arrested six men for stealing pieces of the U.S. border fence to sell as scrap metal.

Holes in the border fence once were more commonly made by migrant smugglers, but fewer people are trying to cross because of a weak U.S. economy and a crackdown on immigration.

The Tijuana police department says the suspects intended to sell the steel sheeting as scrap.
