New paintball club opens in north Spokane
Site offers pro shop, competition area
The area’s paintball crowd should be pumped over the recent opening of Spokane Paintball Club in a remodeled building on the city’s North Side.
The business opened this month in a former warehouse at 732 N. Madelia St., between Trent and Mission avenues.
It will have a pro shop that sells paintball items and equipment. The other side of the building is a 13,000-square-foot competition room.
The pro shop is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays; 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays; and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays. Starting Sept. 1, the club will have three three-hour paintball sessions seven days a week. A club membership will be required to participate.
Partners Shawn and Ashley McNary, Dru-Ann Greene and Randall Robertson launched the business.
The McNarys also operate an outdoor paintball business, Knight Owl Productions, near Newport, Wash.
Brewery plans move
Laughing Dog Brewing, based in Ponderay, Idaho, will move its operations to a larger production facility at the start of 2010.
Now at 55 Emerald Industrial Park Road, the privately owned brewing company will move to a building on U.S. Highway 95. The 10,000-square-foot building used to be a Kmart.
Company founders Michelle Douglass and Fred Colby say the move is planned in January.
In addition to more room for the brewery, the remodeled building will offer a larger taproom with an interactive golf game, an electronic dartboard and outside seating.
Started nearly five years ago, Laughing Dog now brews a dozen beers, distributed to 11 states.
Modern Machinery gets new shop
After 65 years in the same place, Spokane’s Modern Machinery is settling into a more spacious facility – right next door.
The Komatsu heavy-equipment dealer moved Aug. 17 into its new, 35,000-square-foot home at 4428 E. Trent Ave. It’s about 300 feet from the company’s original home, dating to 1944.
The facility includes six full shop bays, a track shop, a welding and fabrication shop, and a 10,000-square-foot warehouse.
Modern Machinery, with 24 employees, sells, rents and services equipment for the construction, mining and forestry industries. It operates nine other branches in the Northwest and one in Russia.
Modern Machinery is one of the largest Komatsu dealers in North America, selling and servicing bulldozers, wheel loaders, excavators and trucks.

Tobacco, beer and wine store opens
Tobacco, Beer & More held its grand opening Aug. 13 at 5004 E. Sprague Ave., in Spokane Valley.
It’s the second such store in town for owners Jeff and Jeannette Toole. The other is at 3123 East Francis Ave., in Spokane.
The store carries tobacco products and accessories, wine and beer, and includes a walk-in humidor with a selection of fine cigars.
Operating hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Pizza franchise opens Valley carryout
A new Little Caesar’s pizza restaurant opened Aug. 10 at 509 N. Sullivan Road in Spokane Valley. It’s in the Banner Center.
Operating hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Service is carryout only.

T-Mobile store coming to downtown
A T-Mobile cellular phone store will open by Oct. 1 in downtown Spokane.
It will go into the space formerly occupied by the Paper Garden, at 211 N. Wall St., next to Talbots.
T-Mobile has signed a five-year lease for the 1,820-square-foot space, said Kim Quigley, an associate broker with commercial brokerage Kiemle & Hagood Co. of Spokane.
