In brief: Tickets on sale for arts showcase

SPOKANE VALLEY – Tickets are available for the Spokane Valley Arts Council’s annual fundraiser, the Artist Showcase Quick Draw Demonstration and Auction.

Besides food and wine, each $75 ticket comes with a $25 membership in the council and a $75 credit for the auction.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. Sept. 12 at the CenterPlace Regional Event Center, 2426 N. Discovery Place, with a “quick draw” event in which 15 artists will work while conversing with guests.

The main event, an auction of 65 pieces of art, will get under way at 6 p.m. Half of the proceeds will go to the artists and half to the arts council for its projects, which have included placing a 6 1/2-foot bronze sculpture in Mirabeau Point Park earlier this month.

Tickets may be purchased at Pacific Flyway Gallery, 313 E. Sprague Ave. The gallery phone number is (509) 747-0812.

SCRAPS seeking pet food donations

SPOKANE VALLEY – Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service, 2521 N. Flora Road, is reaching out to the community to help stock its shelves with food.

SCRAPS relies upon donations of pet food for animals in its care. SCRAPS is asking for donations of preferably Purina One brand adult dog food, canned dog food and kitten food. Cash donations will also be accepted.

Home ownership seminar Monday

PASADENA PARK – Community Frameworks plans an informational meeting on Monday to discuss home ownership opportunities at its new affordable townhome community, Valley Pointe, being developed near University City.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Argonne Branch Library, 4322 N. Argonne Road and is free. For more information, call (509) 484-6733, ext. 117.

Community Frameworks is a nonprofit organization that partners with other organizations to develop affordable rental housing.

Meeting to cover disincorporation

SPOKANE VALLEY – Citizens for Disincorporation, which seeks to dissolve the Spokane Valley city government, will have a public meeting Thursday at 7 p.m.

Organizer Sally Jackson said the gathering will be at the Spokane Valley Library, 12004 E. Main Ave.
