NASA spending wasteful

Tell me why. Can anyone explain? Why is NASA still in operation?

Many years ago, John Kennedy promised the United States that there would soon be a moon landing.

This was surely at a time when everyone in the United States was living luxuriously and there was $20 billion to spare.

Well, today, as we absorb the daily news, with so much hunger and need both here and around the world, why is this stupidity still happening?
