Get out the puffy suit: Temperatures to fall

Wintry weather is expected to move into the Inland Northwest this week.

“The trend is for much colder temperatures,” said meteorologist John Livingston, of the National Weather Service in Spokane.

Highs by Sunday will dip to the low to middle 20s, he said. In addition, light snow or rain may fall Thursday night and Friday as a weather disturbance moves south, bringing a 30 percent chance of precipitation to the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene areas Friday.

A ridge of higher air pressure has formed along the West Coast extending north into British Columbia, creating an upper flow of air from Canada over the Inland Northwest, Livingston said.

The high pressure brought fair weather to the region Sunday and Monday, but fog and lower-elevation clouds that formed Monday could reappear this week. Forecasters said the northerly flow should be strong enough to bring sunshine today and Wednesday.

Highs are forecast to drop to the 30s through Saturday with lows at night in the 20s.

Normal temperatures in Spokane in early December are 35 for a high and 25 for a low.
