Gov. Gregoire eliminates 17 boards and commissions

Associated Press

OLYMPIA — Gov. Chris Gregoire has eliminated 17 boards and commissions by executive order and she is asking lawmakers to get rid of 78 other boards.

Gregoire also wants lawmakers to transfer dozens of small agencies into larger ones. Her proposal comes after she announced a similar plan to consolidate or coordinate functions of several natural-resources agencies.

The boards eliminated Thursday include the Aviation Advisory Board and several community advisory boards for prison facilities. Gregoire is proposing that others are eliminated as well, including the “sunshine committee” that reviews exemptions in the state public-disclosure law and recommends changes.

Gregoire says she will propose health care reforms in January.

Perhaps Gregoire can eliminate the Governor’s Position? First Mike sure is getting a free ride around the state w/escorts. His name was never on the election ballot.
