Churches hosting holiday events

By The Spokesman-Review

As the second Sunday of Advent approaches, Valley churches are beginning to host holiday events. Many are also preparing for youth Christmas pageants.

•The Veradale United Church of Christ will host its 34th annual Plum Pudding Festival on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the church, 611 N. Progress Road. The holiday celebration includes Christmas carols, candles, poems, stories and, of course, plum pudding. All are welcome to attend.

During Advent the church will also host a midweek meditation time Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sanctuary will be open for meditation, and there will be coffee, tea and snacks in the fellowship hall. Those attending are invited to bring their lunch.

•Anyone who enjoys singing Christmas carols is invited to meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Road. After snacking on hot chocolate and cookies everyone will carpool to various locations for Christmas caroling until 4:30.

•A dinner theater presentation of the drama “Mary, Did You Know” will be presented at 6:30 p.m. today at Pasadena Park Church of the Nazarene, 8822 E. Upriver Drive. There will be a buffet dinner and an array of desserts served before the dramatic presentation. The event is semiformal and not for children. Admission is $10.
