TACOMA – Nathan Martinez threw three touchdown passes in the first half to help lead Connell to a 28-7 victory over Cascade Christian in the State 1A championship game Saturday.

Connell (14-0) won its second state title. Cascade Christian (13-1), of Puyallup, had hoped to win its first state title.

Martinez completed 8 of 11 passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns to help give the Eagles a 21-0 halftime lead.

Martinez threw TD passes of 86 and 3 yards to Shane Didier and 42 yards to Matt Hadley.

Didier opened the scoring late in the first quarter when he caught a pass at the Connell 40 and raced 60 yards. Didier is the son of former NFL receiver Clint Didier, now the Connell offensive coordinator.
