GU women rout Matadors

Gonzaga’s women’s basketball team built a big lead early and never looked back in an 80-47 non-conference win over Cal State Northridge on Sunday at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

Heather Bowman and Kelly Bowen each scored 13 points for the Bulldogs (7-2), and Courtney Vandersloot had 12 points and 13 assists for her fourth double-double of the season.

•Saint Mary’s scored 46 second-half points on 14-of-17 shooting in a 74-67 non-conference win over Idaho in Moscow.

Rachele Kloke scored a game-high 19 points for the Vandals (1-8), and Bianca Cheever added 16.

The game was tied at 28 at halftime before the Gaels started the second half on a 7-0 run.

•Sami Whitcomb scored 14 points with 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season as Washington (3-4) beat Central Florida 62-59 in non-conference action in Orlando, Fla., ending the Knights’ nine-game home winning streak.

•Meghan Eisenmann scored 17 points and Korrie Bourn added 14 as Community Colleges of Spokane beat Everett Community College 86-47 at the Spokane Shootout at Spokane Falls Community College.

Swimming

Washington State’s Michaela Ahlin swam under the NCAA “B” qualifying marks in two events at the Long Course Invitational in Federal Way, Wash. Ahlin won the 200 butterfly in 2:15.78 and took third in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 1:01.67

Junior hockey

The Castlegar Rebels scored three goals in the third period to earn a 5-4 victory over the Spokane Braves in Castlegar, British Columbia.

Chip Petrino, Guisseppe Dippolito, Dylan Tappe and Chase Wharton found the back of the net for the Braves, and Cash Ulrich made 23 saves.
