Boys basketball: Shadle Park rallies over LC

A slow start looked to doom the Shadle Park boys basketball team against Lewis and Clark Tuesday, scoring just six points in the first quarter. But SP (1-1) held the Tigers (0-1) to just five points in the second, going on to win 55-52 at SP.

Robby Douglas fueled the comeback for the Highlanders, scoring eight of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and going 4 of 5 from the free-throw line to help them secure the lead late against LC.

University 50, East Valley 43: The Titans (1-0) jumped out to a 15-2 run in the first quarter and held off a late run by the Knights (1-1) to earn a win in their season opener at East Valley. With the Knights pulling within two in the fourth, Tony Tabish scored four of his 12 points for the Titans in the final frame, while Kyle Bailey scored 11 points and added eight boards.

Gonzaga Prep 64, Rogers 47: After the Pirates (2-1) played the Bullpups (2-0) evenly through two quarters, Ryan Nicholas took over, finishing the game with 25 points to lead all scorers at Rogers.

Central Valley 61, Mt. Spokane 46: Scott Simon tallied a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, leading three players in double figures, and the Bears (2-0) led by as many as 18 against the Wildcats (0-3) at CV.

Mead 70, Post Falls 67: Garret Swanson scored the Panthers’ (1-0) last four points to hold off the Trojans (2-1) at Mead. Swanson finished with 17 and helped the Panthers rally from an 11-point first-quarter deficit to tie the game at 33 in the second.

Cheney 69, Sandpoint 56: Deangelo Jones scored 26 points on good penetration against the Bulldogs (0-1) and the Blackhawks (2-1) held on for the win after leading by 11 after one quarter in Sandpoint.

Clarkston 66, Lewiston 49: The Bantams (1-1) started hot, scoring 22 points in the opening frame and cruised to a win against the Bengals (2-1) in Lewiston. Clarkston’s Dustin McConnell led all scorers with 21 points.

Bonners Ferry 45, Newport 44: Three players finished in double figures for the Badgers (3-1), led by 12 from Alex Kellogg, and they forced 35 turnovers by the Grizzlies (2-1) to earn the victory in Newport.

Riverside 46, Northwest Christian 43: Matt Murray hit 5 of 7 from 3-point range scoring 18 points and the Rams (2-0) held off the Crusaders (1-2) through a second half in which both teams played even, scoring 27 points apiece in Riverside.

Chewelah 82, Springdale 36: Josh Christian led five players in double figures with 19 points, tallying 14 of those in the second quarter, in which the Cougars (3-0) outscored the Chargers (3-1) 34-8 to run away with the win in Chewelah.

Kettle Falls 64, Curlew 57: After trailing 17-5 after one quarter of play, the Bulldogs (1-3) rallied to win with a 27-point fourth quarter against the Cougars (0-3), led by 27 points and eight rebounds from Kasey Morgan.

Lake Roosevelt 46, Freeman 41: The Raiders were led by the 16 points from Jake Fury, beating the Scotties (1-3) in Freeman. Cody Unfred scored 13 points for the Scotties.

Odessa 48, Inchelium 45: Kramer Schultz hit three first-half 3-pointers and finished with 27 points and nine rebounds as the Tigers (1-1) held off a late run by the Hornets (2-1) to earn their first win in Odessa.

LaCrosse-Washtucna 43, Sprague-Harrington 37: The Tigercats (2-0) outscored the visiting Falcons (1-3) 19-8 in the final frame after trailing by five, led by Jeff Zimmer, who scored 10 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter.

Cusick 64, Selkirk 49: Spencer Shanholtzer scored 21 points and the Panthers (1-0) pulled away from the Rangers (2-2) in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 28-5 after trailing by eight after three quarters in Ione.

Touchet 52, Pomeroy 50: The Pirates (1-1) overcame a 1-for-14 shooting effort in the first quarter to tie their game against the Indians at the end of regulation, but lost in a battle of free throws in the overtime period in Pomeroy.

Wilbur-Creston 56, Soap Lake 45: Austin Snavely dominated the paint against the Eagles, scoring 20 points while snagging 20 rebounds in the Wildcats’ (3-0) home victory.

Lakeside 49, St. George’s 46: Bo Smokoska scored 19 points and Ryan Gunderson added 13 to go with 12 rebounds and five blocks and the Eagles (2-1) rallied from a 10-point third-quarter deficit to beat the Dragons (1-2) in Nine Mile Falls.

Tekoa-Oakesdale 51, Potlatch 43: The Nighthawks (1-0) held the Loggers scoreless for the last 1:30 and pulled away late for the victory on their home court.

District 9 North

Rosalia 53, Colton 35: The Spartans (3-0, 1-0) scored at least 14 points in the opening three quarters to pull away from the Wildcats (0-1, 0-1) in both teams’ league opener in Rosalia.

Garfield-Palouse 62, St. John-Endicott 50: Lee Roach scored 16 points to go with 10 rebounds and Gavin Burt added 15 points and the Vikings (2-0, 1-0) beat the Eagles (2-2, 0-1) in Palouse.
