Argens leads Washington past Seattle

Mackenzie Argens scored 10 points as Washington beat crosstown rival Seattle 58-53 on the road in non-conference women’s basketball action Wednesday .

Argens scored all of her points in the first half and was the only Washington player to reach double figures. Kristi Kingma added nine points for the Huskies (4-4), and Regina Rogers pulled down nine rebounds.

Ashley Brown scored 19 points for the Redhawks (2-9), and Cassidy Murillo had 16.

Seattle was up 40-39 in the second half when the Huskies went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good. Kingma started it with a 3-pointer.

Washington led 29-27 at the break, but Seattle forged ahead 34-31 early in the second half.

Junior hockey

Shawn Hochhausan netted two goals and two assists and Connor McLaughlin added two goals and an assist to power the Nelson Leafs (20-7-2-1) to a 6-3 victory over the Spokane Braves (19-13-0-2) in KIJHL action at Nelson, British Columbia.

Kyle Bacon had a goal and an assist to lead the Braves.
