Church youth group will perform Christmas play

Covenant United Methodist Church youth will perform “Evening News Hour,” on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the church, 1515 N. Gleneden Drive. The play portrays the story of the birth of Christ.

Refreshments will be served after the performance.

Living Nativities

Green Bluff Community United Methodist Church, 9908 E. Green Bluff Road, Colbert, will present a living Nativity scene Saturday and Dec. 18 and 19 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The outdoor scene will be on the east side of the church building. Visitors can drive by or walk up to view the Nativity.

The living Nativity will also be presented on Christmas Eve following the 7 p.m. family candlelight caroling service.

•The annual drive-through Living Nativity will be at Crossover Church, 16825 N. Newport Highway, Friday through Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.

More than 200 people and 20 animals will take part in six scenes depicting the first Christmas.

The church will provide a CD or tape that will explain the scenes.

Christmas concerts

Holy Names Music Center, 2911 W. Fort George Wright Drive, will celebrate the third Sunday of Advent, Gaudete Sunday, with “Ave!” a celebration of Mary, Sunday at 2 p.m.

The concert will feature music from the 16th century to the present day.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. A reception will follow the concert.

•Kenneth Fuller will play a concert at First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., Sunday at 6 p.m.

Fuller will perform on the church’s 1914 Wurlitzer theater pipe organ, “The Mighty Wurlitzer.” The program will include sing-along Christmas carols, joint piano and organ music and the church’s men’s quartet.

First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar St., will present its annual Messiah Concert and Community Sing-Along on Sunday at 4 p.m.

The church has been hosting this concert since 1910. Anyone wishing to participate in the sing-along should arrive at the church by 2:15 p.m. to check out a musical score.

Those who wish to listen to the concert should arrive to the church early, since seating is limited.

Advent service

Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2733 W. Northwest Blvd., will offer an Advent worship service Wednesday at 7 p.m.

This week’s service will be “The Christmas Language of Acts of Service.”

The evening will also include a soup and bread supper at 6:30 p.m.
