Farewell party Sunday for Rev. Brian Prior

The annual Christmas party at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection will be a bit different this year when it takes place Sunday at 4 p.m. The annual gathering is also doubling as a farewell party for the Rev. Brian Prior, who will be leaving the church before the end of the year to take the seat of the Episcopal Bishop of Minnesota.

Prior was named to his new position in November. He has served as the pastor of the Church of the Resurrection since 1996. He grew up in Prosser, Wash., and has worked in the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane since his ordination as a priest in 1989.

Those attending the potluck gathering are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share. Chicken and salad dishes will be provided. A second guest of honor, a certain jolly man dressed in red, is also expected to be in attendance.

The church is at 15319 E. Eighth Ave.

Christmas Story

The Rev. Linda Crowe of the Veradale United Church of Christ has the annual tradition of writing a contemporary Spokane Valley Christmas story for her congregation. This year’s story will be presented during the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday at the church, 611 N. Progress Road.

Festival of Light

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will host its annual Santa Lucia Festival of Light celebration Sunday at 6 p.m. The festive evening includes decorating the Christmas tree, Christmas carols and a potluck dinner. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share and cookies or finger treats for dessert. The church is at 810 S. Sullivan Road.

Christmas Pageants

•The children of Millwood Presbyterian Church will present their Christmas program titled “Special Delivery” during a special combined worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The presentation will include a drama and Christmas carols. Child care will be provided for children up to 3 years old. The church is at 3223 N. Marguerite Road.

•Foothills Community Church, 11102 N. Forker Road, will host its Sunday School Christmas pageant at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

•The children of Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye Ave., will put on the Christmas musical “Fumbly Bumbly Angels” during the 11 a.m. service on Sunday. The program follows angels who want to be in heaven’s angelic choir. A birthday cake reception will follow.
