Socialism is a bad trade
In my 74 years, I have never witnessed such a conspiratorial American government, a government that considers the U.S. Constitution an etch-a-sketch. The president and Congress are apparently trading democracy for socialism, purposely attempting to diminish our freedoms and forever bankrupt our nation.
According to the Constitution, the federal government must “provide for … general welfare of the United States” (the nation, not individuals) and “regulate (make regular) commerce … among (not within) the several states.”
The original intent of the latter was to ensure that all states could conduct trade across state lines. Congress interprets these passages to mean “do anything we want,” when only 17 discrete powers are granted them by the Constitution. The remainder of powers are left to the states and the people.
Where do bailouts and takeovers, sacking CEOs, TARP and stimulus gifts, cash-for-clunkers, socialized medicine, etc., fit constitutional limitations?
According to Judge Andrew Napolitano, the federal government and agencies have implemented many thousands of such unconstitutional laws.
To counter our administration’s race towards abject socialism – which has never worked anywhere – perhaps we should begin recall campaigns for progressive senators and representatives. Waiting for elections might just be too late.
