Too bad it’s not rocket science

The Spokesman-Review

Those who protest that global warming is a “fraud” take two positions which expose their views to valid criticism.

First, they adopt a point of view and then seek information which supports it. Second, they question the competence and honor of scientists as if they have a motive to deceive. True scientists do neither of these things. Scientists work hard at policing themselves to reveal any among their number who are either incorrect and/or are frauds.

It is simply too complicated to maintain a scientific fraud. Every scientific experiment must be independently verifiable. The fact that the world’s largest computers must be used to predict the weather should be a clue that this is a complicated occupation. We don’t second-guess rocket scientists. Why would we feel competent to second-guess climate scientists?

Those who charge “climate fraud” are promoting acceptance of conspiratorial thinking. This way of thinking invites the success of fraud. Surely that is not what these people intend.
