Reid helps Spokane grab win over Seattle

KENT, Wash. – James Reid made 37 saves on 38 shots to pace the Spokane Chiefs to a 3-1 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds in Western Hockey League action Tuesday.

Levko Koper opened the scoring for Spokane (21-9-2) with a perfect shot from a wide angle that found the net at 9:25 of the first period.

With a 1-0 lead after the first intermission, the Chiefs outshot Seattle (12-19-1-3) 18-9 in the second period.

Brady Brassart doubled the lead at 5:41 of the second period when he knocked in a rebound of a Mitch Holmberg shot.

To wrap up the scoring for Spokane (21-9-2), Kyle Beach added his team-leading 24th goal of the season later in the period.

“We had a good, solid effort,” Spokane coach Hardy Sauter said. “Everyone contributed to the win. I really liked the fact that there was composure from our guys even after their goal in the third period.”

Luke Lockhart broke up Reid’s shutout bid with his second goal of the season at 10:02 of the third period.

The win against the Thunderbirds gave the Chiefs 44 points on the season, and a one-point edge over Portland for second place in the U.S. Division. That will be on the line tonight as the Chiefs host Portland at the Arena.
