Timberwolves prevail at line

Holding onto a slim lead against Cheney, the Lake City boys basketball team shot 4 of 4 from the free-throw line in the final 30 seconds to clinch the 61-56 win Tuesday in Coeur d’Alene.

Three players finished in double figures for the Timberwolves (5-1), led by Wes Beusan, who had 16 points and added 15 rebounds. Mark Smyly contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Timberlake 43, Wallace 39: The Tigers (5-1) outlasted the Miners (2-4), waking up in the second half to score 27 points during a home victory. Brian Bronnelly added 11 points for Timberlake, while Zach St. Clair of the Miners led all scorers with 17 points.

Clarkston 59, Moscow 47: Dustin McConnell’s 21 points outshined 18 from the Bears’ (6-1) Mac Stannard and the Bantams (3-2) handed Moscow its first loss of the season in Clarkston.

West Valley 62, Lakeside 38: Matt Roth led three players in double figures with 14 points as the WV Eagles (1-2) welcomed back the rest of their roster from a football state tournament run to knock off Lakeside (3-3) at West Valley.

Freeman 48, Medical Lake 42: Peter Heinen and Jered Hinch both collected double-doubles for the Scotties (4-3) scoring 16 and 12 points, respectively, to help fend off the Cardinals (1-3), despite ML hitting seven 3-pointers at the Valley Hub.

Northwest Christian 70, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 61: Coming off the bench for the Crusaders (3-2), sophomore Kwimm Hansen was a one-man wrecking crew, scoring 45 points on 22 of 28 from the floor, adding 19 rebounds to beat the host Warriors (2-2). Prior to his effort against the Warriors, Hansen had not scored more than 10 points in a game. Derek Isaak scored 27 points for ACH in the loss, including four 3-pointers and 7 of 8 shooting from the free-throw line.

Reardan 65, Odessa 36: The Indians jumped out to a 12-0 lead against the Tigers (3-3) and extended their lead behind the play of Jake Hight, who scored 27 and Grant Schultz, who added 20 in Odessa.

Lind-Ritzville 79, LaCrosse-Washtucna 43: Jeff Zimmer was 10-of-18 shooting for 20 points and added seven steals for the host Broncos (2-1) as they built a 56-23 lead by halftime against the Tigercats (3-2, 1-1).

Wilbur-Creston 50, Liberty 45: Austin Snavely scored a double-double with 29 points and 15 rebounds and added eight steals and seven blocks for the Wildcats (6-0) in their win over the visiting Lancers (1-3). Ross Collins contributed 15 points for the Lancers, however as a team the Lancers turned the ball over 25 times, helping give Wilbur-Creston the edge.

Colfax 68, Tekoa-Oakesdale 49: James Robinson scored 14 points and hit some timely 3-pointers in the second quarter to get the visiting Bulldogs (1-0) rolling against the Nighthawks (1-3). Drake Hinkins scored 34 points for the Nighthawks in the loss with three 3-pointers, and hitting 11 of 15 free throws.

Kootenai 78, Project CDA 36: Jacob Zarpentine paced the Warriors (3-3) with 19 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals in their victory over the Tasmanian Devils in Canfield.

Panorama League

Republic 57, Curlew 40: Clay Anderson scored 11 of his 22 points in the first half, Talon Kartchner added 19 and seven assists and the Tigers (4-1, 1-0) won their league opener against the Cougars (0-5, 0-2) in Republic.

Inchelium 52, Northport 51: Tony Louie tallied a triple-double for the Hornets (3-3, 1-2) with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to help them earn a league victory against the Mustangs (2-4, 0-3) in Inchelium.

Springdale 88, St. Michael’s 61: Tomaz Symonoweiz led four Chargers (6-1, 3-0) in double figures with 22 points, overcoming a 15-point first quarter deficit in Springdale. The Warriors (1-3, 1-3) led 29-14 after one, behind four 3-pointers and 13 of Michael Ochoa’s 25 points.

District 9 League

Rosalia 55, Garfield-Palouse 35: Jim Maley notched a double-double with 21 points and 15 boards and the Spartans (6-0) shot 22 of 54 from the floor to upend the Vikings (3-1) in Rosalia.

Caribou Trail

Lake Roosevelt 91, Brewster 70: Ty and Cade Egbert scored 30 points apiece and Ty added 18 rebounds as the host Raiders beat the Bears at Coulee Dam. Cade Egbert scored 16 of his points in the first quarter, while Ty Egbert 14 in the third.

Wrestling

Cheney 46, Pullman 13: Elias Mason kicked off the Great Northern League dual season for the Blackhawks with a pinfall in the second round of his 140-pound match and they never looked back against the Greyhounds.

After Pullman won the 150-pound match, the Blackhawks won five straight and six of the next seven.

Fresh off a semifinals appearance at the Inland Empire Classic, Cameron Schlotter (189 pounds) had the quickest match of the evening, earning a pin in 33 seconds.
