Churches plan special events

Latah Valley Presbyterian Church, 202 E. Meadow Lane Road, will present a live Nativity Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.

The event will include actors playing the parts of Mary, Jesus, Joseph, the Magi, the shepherds and the heavenly host, as well as live animals.

Cookies and hot chocolate will be provided.

Yuletide concerts, pageants

New Heights Church will present a Christmas-themed talent show Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox, 1001 W. Sprague Ave.

The evening will include bands, solo performances, dance and poetry readings.

St. Augustine’s Parish Church, 428 W. 19th Ave., will present the St. Cecilia Community Orchestra and Chorus on Sunday at 4 p.m.

The groups will perform “Magnificat” by Vivaldi and music from Mozart, Haydn, J.S. Bach and Samuel Scheidt.

Special services

Liberty Park United Methodist Church, 1526 E. 11th Ave., will present an Advent Spiral Meditation Monday at 7 p.m. The church will celebrate the winter solstice with a walking meditation.

•The German-American Society will present its annual Christmas Service on Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave.

The service will be conducted in both English and German, and traditional Christmas carols will be performed by the Concordia Choir before and during the service.

A reception will follow the service at the Deutsches Haus, 25 W. Third Ave.

All denominations are welcome to attend.

St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St., will present a Celtic Creation Celebration for the Winter Solstice on Friday at 7 p.m.

The service will include a ritual blessing and sharing of fire and will discuss the themes of darkness and light. There will be communion, sung chants, Celtic prayers and music.

A reception will follow the service.
