Mead hands Prep its first setback

After the first week of Greater Spokane League play, Mead and Shadle Park find themselves tied atop the conference.

Bo Tully hit a 15-foot jumper with 5 seconds remaining as Mead’s Panthers knocked visiting Gonzaga Prep from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 53-52 win Saturday afternoon.

Mead (5-1, 3-0 GSL) led 46-30 going into the fourth quarter.

The Bullpups (5-1, 2-1) then scored on nine of their first 11 possessions. With about a minute left, Shane Schmidlkofer hit a 3-pointer to give G-Prep its first lead at 52-50.

Aaron Dunn hit 1 of 2 free throws to close Mead within one.

The Panthers forced a shot-clock violation with about 30 seconds left, setting up the opportunity for Tully’s winning shot.

Brendon Myers led Mead with 14 points. Tully had five assists.

Ryan Nicholas led G-Prep with 21 points.

Shadle Park 50, North Central 38: The Highlanders (5-1, 3-0) made 11 of 18 from the free-throw line in the second half as they opened a lead the Indians (3-4, 2-1) couldn’t overcome.

Brett Boese led SP with 19 points, nine coming in the first quarter. Teammate Taylor Pettersen chipped in 13.

Ed Richardson led NC with 13 and Isaiah Antoine had 10.

Lewis and Clark 65, Central Valley 54: Austin Ehlo had a double-double to lead the visiting Tigers (2-2, 1-1) past the Bears (3-3, 0-3).

Ehlo finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds. He had 13 points in the fourth.

LC outrebounded CV 36-24, including 19 offensive rebounds.

Scott Simon led CV with 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

University 68, Ferris 62: The visiting Titans (4-1, 2-1) took a 30-28 lead into halftime and sealed it with free throws in the fourth quarter to top the Saxons (0-3, 0-2).

Kyle Bailey led U-Hi with 26 points, 19 coming in the second half. Ferris sophomore Chris Wilson was 5 of 8 from 3-point range, finishing with 21. Teammate Connor Halliday had 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Rogers 60, Mt. Spokane 47: Deavon Daniels and Derek Foote hit key 3-pointers in the first half as the Pirates (4-3, 1-1) began to pull away from the visiting Wildcats (0-6, 0-2).

Dillon Franklin led Rogers with 14 points, Foote had 12 and Daniels added 11. Hunter Hahn led Mt. Spokane with 14.
