Keep Spokane moving
The progress in the development of the North Spokane Corridor is encouraging and currently we can travel the 3.7-mile section from Francis Avenue to Farwell Road. We transport freight between Spokane and destinations north of Spokane. This new section allows our trucks to travel more economically, safely, and produce less pollution.
The Washington Department of Transportation is wise to open completed sections of this corridor to the public to gain momentum in community support for a project that has been envisioned for over 50 years. In another two years, the next section will be opened to the public; thus traveling from Francis to Highways 395 and 2 will be nonstop and safer for everyone.
When the entire NSC is completed from I-90 to Highway 395, the economic impact to our community in travel time alone is estimated to save $28 million per year at today’s cost.
In terms of freight; a truck running from I-90 to Francis, via city surface streets and 19 stop lights, takes about 45 minutes at a cost of $53 a trip versus utilizing the NSC will take five minutes at a cost of $6 a trip. The variance is real economic savings to our community.
