Services, celebrations through the weekend

Churches throughout the area are celebrating Christmas with services through the weekend.

Mission Community Presbyterian Church, 2103 E. Mission Ave., will offer a Christmas Eve candlelight service today at 7 p.m.

Mead United Methodist Church, 12611 N. Wilson Road, Mead, will offer two Christmas Eve services today.

There will be a family service of songs and stories at 5:30 p.m. and a traditional Candlelight Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at 11 p.m.

Moran United Methodist Church, 3601 E. 65th Ave., will offer two Christmas Eve services today.

The Gift from the Manger Carols and Candlelight service will be held at 8 p.m. A Candlelight service with Holy Communion will be offered at 11 p.m.

The church will also present a Christmas carol songfest during its worship service Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Fowler United Methodist Church, 3928 N. Howard St., will offer a Christmas Eve candlelight service today at 7 p.m.

Shadle Park Presbyterian Church, 5508 N. Alberta St., will present a contemporary Christmas Eve service with the Worship Team at 5 p.m.

A traditional service with the church choir will be at 9 p.m.

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., will offer three Christmas Eve services.

A candlelight family worship with children’s time will be at 4 p.m. A Communion, candlelight and carols service will be held at 6 p.m., and the St. Mark’s Chancel Choir will perform at the 11 p.m. service.

Covenant United Methodist Church, 15515 N. Gleneden Drive, has three Christmas Eve services scheduled today.

A service for families and children at 5 p.m. will include Christmas carols, marimba music and a short message. Child care will be available for infants through preschool-age children.

A traditional Christmas Eve service at 8 p.m. will include the singing of “Silent Night” and the passing of candlelight.

At 11 p.m., there will be a contemplative service of Lessons and Carols that will include Communion and candlelight.

The church will also offer a casual service Sunday at 11 a.m. Attendees are invited to wear flannel shirts and fleece to its only service that day.

St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St., will hold three Christmas Eve services.

There will be a Children’s Pageant and Eucharist at 6 p.m., a service at 9:30 p.m. with an instrumental ensemble and a candlelight Eucharist service at 10 p.m.

The church will also have Eucharist at the Cathedral on Christmas Day at 10 a.m.

The Spokane Faith Center, 3330 W. Central Ave., will present a musical Christmas Eve service, “The Gift Goes On,” today at 7 p.m. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Lincoln Heights Community Church, 29th Avenue and Freya Street, will present a Christmas Eve candlelight service today at 10 p.m.

The church will also present a Bluegrass Worship Service on Sunday at 11 a.m.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry St., will offer a family Eucharist and Christmas Pageant today at 5 p.m. and a Festival Choral Holy Eucharist service at 10:30 p.m.

•Members of the church will celebrate at 10 a.m. Christmas Day with worship and Holy Eucharist at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave.

Liberty Park United Methodist Church, 1526 E. 11th Ave., will present a Christmas Eve service today at 7 p.m.

The service will close with “Silent Night” sung by candlelight.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 5810 S. Meadowlane Road, will offer a family Christmas Eve worship service at 6 p.m. today. There will also be a candlelight service at 11 p.m.

On Christmas Day, the church will offer Christmas Festival worship at 10 a.m.

There will be only one service Sunday, which will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Farewell gathering for church pastor

Shiloh Hills Fellowship, 207 E. Lincoln Road, will present a farewell service for Pastor Shawn Smith on Sunday.

Worship service will begin at 10 a.m. followed by an all-church potluck at 12:30 p.m. Attendees with last names starting with A through M should bring a salad or dessert. Those with last names from N through Z should bring a main dish.
