Cowen assists in Canada’s second victory

Jordan Eberle of the Regina Pats scored a goal and set up four others, including three by Brandon McMillan of the Kelowna Rockets, as Canada downed Switzerland 6-0 on Monday in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, for its second straight shutout at the World Junior Hockey Championships.

Jake Allen of the Montreal Juniors made 15 saves and has needed to stop just 25 shots in two games to register a pair of shutouts. Canada beat Latvia 16-0 in its opener.

Spokane Chiefs captain and defenseman Jared Cowen had an assist on a McMillan goal in the third period.

Canada (2-0) continues preliminary round play tonight against Slovakia (1-1). Switzerland (0-2) plays Latvia on Wednesday.

In Monday’s other game, Russia (2-0) shut out Finland (1-1) 2-0.

The United States (2-0), including Spokane’s Tyler Johnson, returns to action today against Latvia (0-2). Austria (0-2), which includes the Chiefs’ Stefan Ulmer, plays the Czech Republic (0-2).
