Fire that razed Hayden Lake home under investigation

By The Spokesman-Review

Fire officials today were trying to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a 4,000-square-foot home at Hayden Lake on Wednesday night.

Two occupants got out safely along with their pets, but they lost virtually all of their belongings and their home at 2247 E. Woodstone Dr. in a gated community just west of Hayden Lake.

The Northern Lakes Fire District along with Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, Coeur d’Alene Fire Department and Timberlake Fire Department responded to the blaze about 10 p.m.

Tyler Drechsel, fire inspector for Northern Lakes, said that the house was about three-fourths on fire when crews arrived. They were able to save a vehicle and some belongings from a garage.

Water pressure was low during the firefight, but crews contacted the local water district to increase pressure on the hydrant system in the neighborhood, Drechsel said. The issue of water pressure will be examined, and corrective measures are expected, he said.

The names of the occupants were not released. No injuries were reported.
