Ballots on school levies, fire district due today

Voters in Freeman, Orchard Prairie and all three Spokane Valley school districts have until today to cast their ballots on tax measures.

Residents of Spokane County Fire District 1, which serves much of the Spokane Valley, also have a maintenance and operation levy on their ballot.

East Valley School District has a three-year replacement levy of about $3.15 for each $1,000 of assessed property valuation and a $34.5 million bond issue that would help upgrade or expand five elementary schools and two middle schools, and improve computer technology throughout the district.

West Valley School District has a three-year replacement levy that ranges from $3.89 to $3.79 per $1,000 of assessed value over that period, and a separate technology projects levy designed to raise $500,000 per year for the next three years. The technology levy would add between 27 cents and 25 cents per $1,000 of assessed value.

Central Valley School District has a three-year replacement levy of about $3.27 per $1,000 of assessed value. Freeman School District has a three-year replacement levy of about $2.60 per $1,000 of assessed value. Orchard Prairie School District has a two-year replacement levy, with a rate of $1.19 per $1,000 of value in 2010 and $1.25 in 2011.

The Valley Fire District’s three-year levy is $1.59 per $1,000 of assessed value.
