In brief: Organizers seek senior softball players

Organizers are looking for men age 60 and older to play elite competitive softball in U.S. Senior softball tournaments.

“We have great sponsors. Existing players have earned 20-plus world championships in the past,” said Dave Gunderson. “If you are a team player, can play and are competitive, we want you.”

Contacts are coach Pat Dalsanders at 466-6856, George Quiggle at 710-5243, and Gunderson at 928-7588.

Ice Palace hosting tropical beach party

There’s a beach party Saturday at the Ice Palace at Riverfront Park. Between noon and 5 p.m., hula-hoop contests and games of beach ball relay will help transform the Ice Palace into a tropical getaway.

Wear your best Hawaiian shirts and flip-flops. Skate rentals are free, thanks to sponsorship from Group Health Cooperative.

Don’t forget hats and gloves – or perhaps something warm to change into once the “beach fun” is over.

Parks and Recreation hosting job fair

The Spokane Parks and Recreation Department will host a job fair Sunday in the Riverfront Park Pavilion, from noon to 4 p.m.

The fair will provide information for over 200 spring and summer positions at Riverfront Park, including attraction attendants for the Carrousel, SkyRide, Tour Train, and Pavilion rides, food and attraction cashiers, food service cooks and storeroom attendants.

Riverfront Park staff will be on hand to answer questions. Applicants must be 16 or older by March 9. Some positions require applicants to be at least 18.

Seasonal positions begin mid-March. Most employees work 15-20 hours per week in spring and fall, and 30-40 hours per week in the summer. Wages begin at $8.65 per hour.

Aquatics positions will also be available. Lifeguard applicants need only be 15 and must attend a training class in the spring.

Applications will be available in the Riverfront Park Lobby, in the main Pavilion near the IMAX Theater, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week.
