Rescuer says he has new postal gig
The U.S. Postal Service is trying to make amends with a worker who was cheered one day for helping rescue an elderly woman but told days later his contract would not be renewed because he crashed his vehicle.
Isaac Fish, 21, of Coeur d’Alene, says he has agreed to come back to work for the postal service, but at half the pay with no vacation time and benefits.
Officials with the Spokane Postal District offered Fish a job Wednesday as a clerk at the Post Falls branch. Fish’s temporary contract as a carrier was set to expire Saturday. Fish was told last week that his contract would not be renewed.
Postal officials have declined to comment on Fish’s release.
But Fish’s father said the decision is tied to a crash that occurred on his son’s route the same day he called police to check on an elderly woman.
Isaac Fish alerted police after noticing the woman’s mail piling up in her box. The woman had fallen and was immobilized for several days.
