Mayor will give address in evening

Spokane Valley Mayor Rich Munson will give his annual State of the City address at night this year so more people can attend.

The March 4 speech will be at the CenterPlace community center, where free seating will be provided for those who don’t want to participate in a $40-per-plate dinner sponsored by the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Munson will speak at 7:15 p.m. A no-host social hour will begin at 5:30, and dinner will be served at 6:30.

The mayor said in a press release that his remarks will focus on the City Council’s goals for the current year as well as the city’s six-year business plan and its accomplishments in the past year.

Traffic meeting Wednesday

The Millwood City Council plans to hold a public meeting to discuss traffic issues on Empire Avenue and Fowler Street Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Millwood City Hall, 9103 E. Frederick Ave.

The meeting is a response to neighbors’ concerns about speed and number of vehicles on Empire and Fowler, with Spokane County traffic experts present to answer questions about reducing the impact of traffic on the neighborhood.

Spaghetti fundraiser Feb. 22

St. John Vianney Catholic Church will host its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser Feb. 22.

The meal will be served between 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the church, 502 N. Walnut Road. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and children ages 6 through 12. Children younger than 6 can eat for free. Call 926-5553 for more information.

IEL gardening classes coming up

Greater Spokane Valley residents looking forward to tackling some yard work when the snow melts can sign up for garden classes through the Institute for Extended Learning.

Instruction on growing orchids will be offered Feb. 25 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at CenterPlace, 2426 N. Discovery Place. Cost is $18.

A landscape design class will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 12 through 24, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., also at CenterPlace. Cost is $41.
