Gonzaga doubles up Dons

Janelle Bekkering hit four 3-pointers en route to 18 points and Courtney Vandersloot had 18 while filling up the stat sheet as Gonzaga whipped San Francisco 71-35 Saturday afternoon in a West Coast Conference women’s basketball game.

Bekkering opened the game with a 3-pointer and hit another to break a 9-all tie as the Zags (21-5, 9-1) used a 12-0 run to break the game open.

Vandersloot also had eight assists, eight rebounds and three steals.

GU held San Francisco to 22 percent shooting. Shay Rollins had 20 for the Dons (6-19, 2-9).

Oregon State 52, Washington State 42: Freshman Jazmine Perkins scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but the Cougars (10-14, 3-10) couldn’t overcome a slow start in falling to the Beavers (15-8, 6-7) in a Pac-10 game at Corvallis, Ore.

WSU shot just 14.8 percent in the first half, making 4 of 27. Only a strong defensive effort kept the game close as the Beavers hit just 6 of 23. OSU led 22-12 at halftime.

The Cougars shot 44.8 percent in the second half, cutting the deficit to six, but couldn’t get closer. Freshman April Cook contributed 12 points.

The Beavers had four players in double figures, with Tiffany Ducker getting 12 points with 17 rebounds.

WSU made just 5 of 11 free throws while OSU was 17 of 21 from the line.

Idaho State 69, Eastern Washington 59: The Eagles (10-15, 5-7) fell into a big hole in the first half of their final home game before the Bengals held on for the win.

ISU (8-16, 5-6) led 31-13 in the first half before EWU stormed back to trail 41-36 with 14:30 to play. Freshmen reserves Chene Cooper and Brianne Ryan scored 14 and 12, respectively, for the Eagles.

Jenna Brown led four Bengals in double figures with 24, hitting 14 of 17 free throws. ISU hit 25 of 31 free throws while Eastern was 12 for 12.

Oregon 77, Washington 69: Micaela Cocks scored 19 points and Amanda Johnson and Ellie Manou added 14 each as the Ducks (9-15, 5-8) ended a six-game Pac-10 losing streak by beating the visiting Huskies (5-8, 1-12) at Eugene, Ore.

Sami Whitcomb had 16 of her game-high 26 points in the first half for UW, which led 37-34 at halftime.

Pacific Lutheran 71, Whitworth 58: Cassie Pilkington poured in 25 points and Liz Horiatis added 16 with 11 rebounds, but the Pirates (12-11, 6-8) dropped a key Northwest Conference road game to the Lutes (13-10, 7-7) at Tacoma.

The Whits shot just 32 percent while the Lutes hit 46 percent and had a 45-39 edge on the boards.

Treasure Valley 64, CCS 57: Kelsey Stillar poured in 28 points, hitting 6 of 11 3-pointers, but the Sasquatch (14-9, 7-4) couldn’t overcome a 14-point halftime deficit in the road loss to the Chukars (13-10, 7-4) at Ontario, Ore.

CCS shot 33 percent in the first half to fall behind 33-19.

North Idaho 77, Eastern Utah 66: The Cardinals (20-6, 7-4) made their free throws down the stretch to pick up the win over the Golden Eagles (12-14, 3-8) at Post Falls High School.
