Spokane man arrested in bus driver assault

By The Spokesman-Review

A 29-year-old Spokane man is in jail Friday after threatening an STA bus driver with a knife, and demanding to be taken fishing.

The passenger, Daniel A. Zupan, was arrested for unlawful imprisonment, second-degree assault and felony harassment, Fuller said.

About 6 a.m. Friday, Spokane police responded to a call of a passenger causing problems on an STA bus in the area of 14th Avenue and Grand. Zupan decided to board the bus, which was not yet in service, said Spokane Police Officer Teresa Fuller. He allegedly held a knife to the driver’s throat and demanded the driver take him someplace to go fishing.

At one point the suspect dropped the knife, grabbed an ice scraper and struck the driver in the face, cutting the driver’s lip, Fuller said.

The man then picked up the knife again and “would not allow the bus driver off of the bus,” Fuller said.

Police arrived on scene and arrested Zupan.
