North Idaho doubles up Colorado Northwestern

Steven Hodney had 18 points and BJ Shearry had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead the North Idaho Cardinals to a 102-49 Scenic West Athletic Conference men’s basketball victory over the Colorado Northwestern Spartans (0-12, 0-12) at Christianson Gym.

Demetrius Davis added 16 points, Shawn Henderson 13 and Renado Parker 10 for the Cardinals (24-3, 9-3).

Baseball

Andy Wilkins homered and drove in three runs in the second game of a doubleheader and the Arkansas Razorbacks completed a season-opening sweep of the Washington State Cougars at Fayetteville, Ark.

In the first game, Jared Prince homered for the Cougars but the Razorbacks scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a 2-all tie and claim a 4-2 victory.

David Stilley, James Wise and Paris Shewey completed four shutout innings of relief off starter Matt Way for Washington State.

Andrew Darr’s two-out, two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Razorbacks a 7-5 win in the nightcap.

•Kevin Rodland and Brock Stassi drove in three runs apiece to give the Nevada Wolf Pack a 7-4 season-opening victory over the Gonzaga Bulldogs at the Grand Canyon Tournament in Phoenix.

Gonzaga starter Matt Fields went seven shutout innings and allowed three hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in a no-decision.

•Connor Gardiner drove in four runs to help the Hastings Broncos defeat the Whitworth Pirates 12-4 at Peoria, Ariz.

Mitch Ramsay and Chad Flett had two hits apiece for Whitworth (0-3).

Alex Kucera pitched 51/3 scoreless innings in relief to claim the victory for Hastings (1-6).

Softball

Brandi Christopher hit a grand slam during a five-run first inning and Brianna Harbour drove in three runs to lead the North Idaho Cardinals to a 12-8 victory over the Southern Idaho Golden Eagles in the first game of a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader at Lewiston.

The second game was suspended by darkness with the Golden Eagles leading the Cardinals 2-1 in the middle of the sixth inning. That game will be resumed at 11 a.m. today prior to the regularly scheduled doubleheader between the teams.
