Here’s the Dirt: Corporate center opens in Valley

The River View Corporate Center, which mushroomed out of the ground in 40 days, is open for business at 16201 E. Indiana, Leasing Director Jack Marr says. The five-story brick-and-glass building owned by Worthy Enterprises LLC envelops 250,000 square feet. The lobby, with a two-story staircase and Venetian plaster ceilings, also features four large flat-panel televisions. A water feature, a signature of Worthy projects, is located outside the main entrance off of Indiana. There are 1,270 parking spaces around and below the $20 million project. There are two conference rooms, an exercise room, and changing rooms for tenants that want to use the Centennial Trail, which passes between the center’s north side and the Spokane River. So far, Marr said, the only two tenants are the Washington Department of Health, which had outgrown its old space, and Virtual Educational Software. “The goal is to get some big tenants” who can fill one or two floors by themselves, he said, adding that companies that have inquired about spaces that size have apparently put their plans on hold. Lease rates vary from $21 per square foot to $24, Marr said.

Coffee shop opens

PRESS, a coffee/cocktail/dessert bar on Spokane’s lower South Hill, opened in January. Business partners Marianne Guenther and Jeremy Tangen describe PRESS as “a modern, hip and fun place to hang out with friends, drink freshly ground French press coffee, eat scrumptious desserts and, if the desire hits, have a yummy cocktail or a microbrew.” PRESS offers DOMA coffee, 12 beers on tap and a freshly squeezed citrus signature cocktail, the Grapefruitini. The dessert case is filled with cakes, pies, breads and other treats from local bakers. The space includes a roll-up garage door that will open to an outdoor patio in summer; free wi-fi; and a plug-in for electric cars. PRESS is south of Sacred Heart Medical Center at 909 S. Kids’ clothes shop now opens

Abigail’s Closet is a new kids’ clothing store in north Spokane. Shelley and Carlos Gacusana, Spokane residents for 10 years, opened the store in November and operate it daily. The store offers used clothes, sizes newborn to 12, on consignment. It also carries maternity clothes, baby equipment, toys and diaper cakes – a baby shower gift of diapers decorated like a cake. The 1,280-square-foot store is named for the couple’s daughter, Abigail, who is 4?1⁄2 and has Down syndrome. The family’s other four children – ages 16, 15, 7 and 2 – voted on the name.
