Selkirk boys win on last-second shot

Hunter Enyeart hit a layup at the buzzer to lift the Selkirk Rangers to a 53-51 victory over the St. George’s Dragons in a District 7 2B loser-out game on Wednesday at Mt. Spokane High.

Trevor Turpin scored a game-high 24 points and Sawyer Pettis grabbed 10 rebounds for Selkirk (16-9), which beat St. George’s (16-8) for the first time in four tries this season.

Jordan Dickson netted 20 points and Grant Evans scored 17 for the Dragons.

Selkirk will play Lind-Ritzville on Saturday at Mt. Spokane at 4 p.m. in a winner-to-state, loser-out game.

Lind-Ritzville 58, Reardan 46: Jamie Stevenson scored 14 and Cory Whitmore totaled 11 points and 12 rebounds to power the Bronocs (15-11) past the Indians (13-13) at Mead High.

District 9 2B at Walla Walla

Tekoa-Oakesdale 61, Asotin 47: Kelly Cook had 16 points and Zach Young and Casey Cook each scored 12 to send the Nighthawks (17-4) past the Panthers (12-9) in a loser-out game at Walla Walla Community College.

The Nighthawks will play Waitsburg-Prescott, a 59-55 winner over Dayton, in a loser-out game on Friday. The winner will play on Saturday at 4 p.m. against the loser of Friday’s Garfield-Palouse versus Liberty Christian game for the second berth to state.

1A regional at Moses Lake

Freeman 41, Cascade 30: Luke Matthews tallied 10 points and hit 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch in the fourth quarter, and Peter Heinen and Anthony Emtman combined to grab 28 rebounds to help the Scotties (20-1) hold off the Kodiaks (10-14).

Freeman advances to play Chelan in a winner-to-state, loser-out game on Friday at 6 p.m.

Lake Roosevelt 51, Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 50: Ed Wolfe had 14 points and Ronald Salas scored 12 to help the Raiders (14-7) hold off the Eagles (13-10) in a loser-out game.

Lake Roosevelt takes on Brewster in a winner-to-state, loser-out game on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Chelan 56, Chewelah 39: Joe Harris poured in a game-high 25 points to send the Goats (19-3) past the Cougars (13-11).

Idaho 3A District 1-II

Priest River 56, Bonners Ferry 42: Jake Weimer scored 18 points and Eric Holbrook and Tyler Douglas combined to score 21 to lead the Spartans (17-1) past the Badgers (6-15) at North Idaho College.

Priest River plays St. Maries on Friday at 8 p.m. for the district title and a berth to state. Kellogg will play Bonners Ferry in a loser-out game on Friday at 6. The loser of St. Maries-Priest River will play the winner of Kellogg-Bonners Ferry on Saturday at 7 p.m. for the other berth to state.

St. Maries 59, Kellogg 38: Zach Lehman poured in a game-high 31 points on 14-of-20 shooting from the floor and Aaron Corsi added a triple-double with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 13 blocked shots to propel the Lumberjacks (15-3) past the Wildcats (10-11) at NIC.

Girls

Freeman 65, Lake Roosevelt 49: Korina Baker tossed in a game-high 19 points and MacKenzie Taylor chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds to power the Scotties (22-0) to a victory over the Raiders (11-9) in a loser-out opener at the 1A regional tournament at Moses Lake High School.

Freeman advances to a winner-to-state, loser-out game against Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Moses Lake.

Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 44, Tonasket 36: Kendra Lahue totaled 18 points and Leslie Stillar added 12 points and seven rebounds to carry the Eagles (14-9) past the Tigers (17-5) in a loser-out contest.

Cascade (Leavenworth) 47, Newport 45: Ashley Wright hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer and finished with 22 points to lift the Kodiaks (17-7) over the Grizzlies (15-10) in a loser-out game. Cascade will play Chelan in a winner-to-state, loser-out game Friday.

District 7 2B

Liberty 62, Springdale 20: Kelly Hennessey hit three second-quarter 3-pointers when she scored 10 of her game-high 20 points to guide the Lancers (17-9) to a victory over the Chargers (20-4) in a loser-out game at Mead High.

Teara Cornmesser finished with a double-double – 12 points, 13 rebounds – for Liberty. Hennessey also handed out six assists.

Liberty will play Davenport in a winner-to-state, loser-out game on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Spokane High.

Davenport 32, St. George’s 29: Mariah Mielke tossed in 12 points and Katie Vesneske scored all six of her points in the fourth quarter to help the Gorillas (15-10) turn back the Dragons (15-9) at Mt. Spokane High.

Lena Leverett-Standal scored 12 to pace the Dragons.

District 9 2B at Walla Walla

Pomeroy 54, Tekoa-Oakesdale 43: Taelor Braun tallied 19 points and Kaci Uto scored 17 on the strength of a 10-for-10 night at the free-throw line to catapult the Pirates (17-6) past the Nighthawks (12-11) in a loser-out game.

Pomeroy advances to play Dayton, a 42-33 winner over DeSales, in a loser-out game on Friday at noon. The winner will play the loser of the Asotin versus Garfield-Palouse game for the second and final seed to state.
