Jail inmate found dead in cell
A 40-year-old Kootenai County Jail inmate who had been incarcerated since October died Saturday, Kootenai County sheriff’s Lt. Kim Edmondson reported in a news release.
Todd Searight-Douglass Neff, of Post Falls, was being held on felony charges. Another inmate told guards around noon that Neff was not responsive, Edmondson said.
Authorities found him in his bunk. He was not breathing. CPR was attempted, but he was declared dead after medical staff arrived on scene, Edmondson said.
The death will be investigated by Coeur d’Alene police.

Driver injured pulling onto Highway 2
A woman was seriously injured Friday after her car was struck as she pulled out of a driveway, the Washington State Patrol reported.
Mary Angela Kohlieber, 49, was driving a Ford Aerostar when she entered the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 2 about two miles south of the Pend Oreille County line. She was hit by a Ford F250 pickup driven by Lanzce G. Douglass, 42, who was southbound, WSP said.
Kohlieber, of Elk, was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center, where she was listed in serious condition Saturday evening.
Troopers determined that Kohlieber failed to yield to Douglass.
Douglass, a local real estate developer, was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
Highway 395 crash injures two
A Deer Park woman was critically injured Saturday in a two-car crash in Deer Park, the Washington State Patrol reported.
The collision occurred about 1:45 p.m. when a westbound Buick LeSabre driven by Alan V. Hastings, 86, attempted to cross U.S. Highway 395 from Crawford Avenue, the WSP said.
The Buick was hit by a southbound Pontiac Bonneville driven by Bruce A. Mason, 46, the WSP said.
A passenger in the Buick, Dorothy V. Kincaid, was taken by helicopter to Sacred Heart Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition Saturday night. Hastings did not require treatment.
Mason, of Chewelah, was uninjured. His passenger, Yakima resident Pamela J. Norman, was injured and driven to see a private doctor, the WSP said.
Troopers determined that Hastings failed to yield the right of way to Mason.

Prison riot quickly suppressed
More than 100 inmates at a medium-security prison south of Boise broke control-room windows, overturned furniture and started a small fire in a temporary housing block opened only Friday as part of efforts to trim costs amid a state budget crisis.
The disturbance at the 34-year-old Idaho State Correctional Institution, built to house a total of 1,490 inmates, began before midnight and was under control at 1:05 a.m. Saturday, the Idaho Department of Correction said. Four inmates suffered minor injuries, including one man who received cuts to his head that required stitches. No staff members were hurt.
