Weather will warm up, but snow still likely

If the weather forecasters are right, the cold, single-digit temperatures of the past couple days should give way to warmer air today and into the week.

What won’t go away is the chance of snow.

Todd Carter of the National Weather Service in Spokane said today should be “pretty boring,” meteorologically speaking. Morning fog in the region should give way this afternoon to increasing clouds moving through in advance of a storm system expected tonight.

That storm system, which should hit the Spokane area about 9 o’clock tonight, could drop another 6 inches of snow. The most intense snowfall is expected between midnight and 3 a.m. Monday, with light snow continuing until Monday afternoon, Carter said.

“Morning commuters could still be seeing signs of snow hanging around on the road” Monday morning, Carter said. “So they should be careful of that.”

The high Saturday reached 14 at Spokane International Airport, with a low of minus 8. The low today is predicted at about 21 degrees, with a high of 26 or possibly warmer, hovering around freezing. Those warmer temperatures could mean that light snow Tuesday may give way to rain overnight into Wednesday.
