In brief: Columbia sends Cusick to first loss

Mackenzie Parrow scored eight of her team-high 12 points in the third quarter Tuesday as Columbia (Hunters) came from behind to edge visiting Cusick 40-37 in a battle of Panorama League unbeatens.

The Lions (6-0, 4-0) trailed 31-27 heading into the final quarter, but they used a crucial late-game steal by Krista Colvin and a pair of big free throws from Parrow to hand the Panthers (6-1, 4-1) their first loss of the season and take over sole possession of first place in the league standings.

Cusick was paced by Lydia Treischel, who threw in 13 points.

Inchelium 53, Curlew 41: The visiting Hornets used a game-high 22 points from Serena Condon to overcome a 13-2 first-quarter deficit and reel in the Cougars. Nikki Fry and Jordan Signor also finished in double figures for Inchelium, while Katie Jo Torzewski paced Curlew with 14 points.

Wellpinit 56, Northport 49: Lauren Flett made 11 of 16 shots and finished with 25 points as the Redskins (2-4, 1-2) turned back the visiting Mustangs (0-6, 0-3), who got a game-high 28 points from Shyanne Wilson.

Great Northern League

Pullman 66, Medical Lake 58: Macey Brown tossed in a game-high 14 points and teammates Erika Hanson and Amy Sterk each added 11 to lead the Greyhounds (5-2) past the visiting Cardinals (2-3) in the league opener for both schools.

Gabrielle Daily finished with 13 points for Medical Lake.

Non-league

Pasco 67, Post Falls 42: Hayley Hodgin poured in 30 points to lead the Bulldogs to an easy win over the visiting Trojans (10-4). Post Falls got a team-high 16 points from Jordan Schoening but shot just 28 percent from the field.

Sandpoint 46, Mt. Baker 43: Jenny Thomas scored all seven of her points in the final 3 minutes to help offset the loss of scoring leader Christina Johnson – who fouled out late in the game – and led the previously winless Bulldogs (1-8) past the visiting Mountaineers. Johnson finished with 11 points, despite watching the last two minutes from the bench.

Springdale 55, Chewelah 43: The visiting Chargers (7-1) jumped to an early 8-0 lead and used the 21-point scoring outburst of Kelsey Fitzgerald to hold off the Cougars (1-9), who were paced by Ariel Wood’s 12 points.

Kettle Falls 80, Republic 28: Jessica Coots scored 16 points to lead a trio of double-figure scorers for Kettle Falls, and the Bulldogs (6-4) went on to crush the visiting Tigers (1-7). Republic was paced by Nicole Ordway’s nine points. Samantha Charlton finished with 14 points for the winners, while Chelsea Brisbois added 13.

Freeman 59, Lake Roosevelt 51: Alyssa Maine, Korina Baker and Carley Heinen each scored 12 points to lead the unbeaten Scotties (8-0) past the host Raiders (2-3) at Coulee Dam. Included in Maine’s output were a pair of big 3-pointers that stopped a Lake Roosevelt run in the third quarter. Melissa Meza scored 21 points for the Raiders.

Garfield-Palouse 51, Potlatch 23: Tianna Woltering and Elisha Lopez combined for 28 points and 13 steals to lead the visiting Vikings (7-1) past the Loggers. Lopez also had six rebounds. The Vikings finished with 29 steals. Gar-Pal’s lone loss of the season was four weeks ago, against St. John-Endicott.
