Laura Bush ready to tell at least some

Laura Bush (Associated Press / The Spokesman-Review)

First lady Laura Bush, among the most reserved and enigmatic public figures of recent times, will, at last, tell her story.

Bush has agreed to write a memoir with one of the world’s oldest publishing houses, Scribner. Publication for the book, currently untitled, is scheduled for 2010.

“She understands she has not put herself forward and that this is her chance to share the information she wants to share,” says Scribner publisher Susan Moldow.

A former librarian, Bush is a devoted reader whose favorite authors include Cormac McCarthy, Truman Capote and Toni Morrison.

She co-authored a children’s story with daughter Jenna.

Bush’s literary representative, Robert Barnett – whose clients also include Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton – says Bush has not started writing the book, but “wants to get right to work on this project when she leaves the White House. It is a high priority for her.”

Bush will have a collaborator – still to be determined – to help her meet the 2010 publishing date.

Wanted – cash, check or charge

The final note of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential campaign may very well be sung by Jon Bon Jovi.

The rocker is performing at a Jan. 15 fundraiser at Manhattan’s Town Hall as Clinton tries to close out her campaign debt, which stood at $6.3 million as of last month.

Ticket prices range from $75 to $1,000.

‘Ugly’ star’s beautiful babies

Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell are new parents – times two.

A publicist for the “Ugly Betty” actress says twin daughters Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip were born Dec. 28.

They’re the first children for Romijn, 36, and O’Connell, 34, who were married in 2007.

More than just friends

John Mayer has finally agreed to Jennifer Aniston’s “marriage demands” and is ready to pop the question, reports the National Enquirer.

A traditional Greek Orthodox wedding is said to be planned.

And Alanis Morissette tells OK! magazine she and her boyfriend, lawyer Tom Ballanco, may wed “in the not too distant future.”

Just normal celebrity behavior

A DUI charge against actress Heather Locklear, involving prescription medication, has been dropped as part of a deal that had the actress plead guilty to the lesser charge of reckless driving.

Meanwhile, actor/playwright Sam Shepard was arrested over the weekend on preliminary charges of speeding and drunken driving after being stopped in the central Illinois town of Normal.
