WCC honors GU’s Bowman

Gonzaga Bulldogs junior Heather Bowman was named the West Coast Conference player of the month for December in women’s basketball it was announced Wednesday.

Bowman averaged 19.9 points and 9.4 rebounds per game in helping Gonzaga post a 4-3 record. She shot 45.5 percent from the floor and 84.1 percent at the free-throw line.

Bowman finished the month with three double-doubles and was the leading scorer in all but one game.

Bowman leads the conference in scoring at 20.1 ppg.

Girls basketball

Colton 63, Pomeroy 51: Kelsey Moser and Millie Kramer tossed in 14 points apiece and Courtney Druffel scored 13 to propel the Wildcats (4-0, 3-0) to a victory over the host Pirates (4-4, 0-2) in District 9 North League play.

Taelor Braun poured in a game-high 33 points for Pomeroy, while Kaci Uto scored 14.

Rosalia 53, Tri-Cities Prep 28: Meaghan Reddish and Briann Maley each posted double-doubles and the Spartans (5-3) rolled to a non-league victory over the host Jaguars. Reddish finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Maley chipped in 10 points and 10 boards. Katelyn Maley scored 10 for Rosalia, which forced 38 turnovers.

Davenport 48, Sprague-Harrington 26: Got Mielke? The Gorillas do. Mariah Mielke totaled 15 points and 10 rebounds and Miranda Mielke tallied 13 points and 14 steals to guide Davenport (1-3) to a non-league win over the visiting Falcons (2-3). Katlyn Lohman’s eight points topped S-H.

Asotin 51, Walla Walla Valley Academy 27: Shelby Barnes tossed in a game-high 20 points and the Panthers cruised to a non-league road win over the Knights.

Boys basketball

Tri-Cities Prep 58, Rosalia 48: The Jaguars took control in the fourth quarter to post a non-league victory over the Spartans in Pasco.

Jim Maley scored 19 and grabbed eight rebounds to pace Rosalia (5-4), which was outscored 19-12 in the final period. Nathan Richards added 12 points and 14 rebounds in a losing effort.

Davenport 63, Sprague-Harrington 25: Morgan Scharff, a 6-foot-9 junior post, netted 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to power the Gorillas (4-1) to a win over the visiting Falcons (1-4). Jarrod Gunning added 10 points, six assists and six steals for the winners. Justin Clouse scored 11 to lead S-H.

Pomeroy 51, Colton 40: The Pirates held off the visiting Wildcats (0-3) despite shooting just 16 of 31 from the line.
