Climate claims shaky
Mr. Freese (“It’s a matter of science,” Jan.4) seems to think that human-induced “climate change” is based on sound science, since only “a few experts have doubts.” Since when was science up for a vote?
By studying history, one might come across the eugenics craze before World War II. In the early 20th century it was common “scientific” knowledge that the most genetically “inferior” people (based on both race and social class) had the most children, while more socially and racially superior folk tended to have less children.
It became acceptable to forcibly sterilize and even euthanize certain groups of people, which in Germany led to the Holocaust. The idea of eugenics lost its popularity since then, and today would be considered racist, discriminatory and completely unscientific.
The Earth’s climate has never been constant, and I doubt our ability to accurately model it due to the large number of variables involved.
A recent decline in sunspot activity seems to correlate to a decrease in global temperature, for example. One thing which is telling is the gradual change from supporters using the term “global warming” to “climate change” (and don’t forget “global cooling” from the 1970s).
