Traffic stop nets drugs, loaded gun

A traffic stop over window tinting ended in the arrest of a Spokane man who had a loaded pistol in his glove compartment, cocaine under his seat, and $1,500 in his pockets, officials said.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Tom Edelbrock pulled over Aaron Scott Murdock, 24, on Upriver Drive Friday morning because the windows of his 2003 Honda appeared to be darker than allowed by state law.

As Edelbrock prepared to test the windows with a tint meter, Murdock opened the glove box, revealing the butt of a pistol. The deputy grabbed the weapon, which was loaded, and quickly searched for others.

Edelbrock found two clear plastic bags with cocaine beneath the driver’s seat. He then arrested Murdock for cocaine possession and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

Drug scales, small quantities of marijuana and cash were found in the car and Murdock’s clothing.

Murdock was booked into the Spokane County Jail.

Police say robber hit store twice

A Sunday evening robbery of the Northwest Foodmart at 5611 N. Driscoll Blvd., was the second in four days apparently committed by the same man, Spokane police say.

The suspect, who brandished a handgun during both robberies, is described as a white male in his late teens or early 20s with facial hair and medium build. He was wearing a ski mask, dark-colored hooded sweat shirt, blue jeans and white shoes.
