Not all cable viewers spared

The Spokesman-Review

All of our local TV stations are airing endless announcements about the conversion of TV from analog to digital on Feb. 17. These announcements assure viewers that current Comcast cable customers will have no problems and don’t need a converter box.

This is not the complete story, however. All Comcast customers who who receive “expanded basic,” channels 2 to 77, must get new boxes from Comcast before Feb. 17, or their service will become limited to far fewer channels.

So, while viewers who do not use cable must buy a converter box, and those who already have HDTV cable service or only want “basic” service need do nothing at all, those of us with “expanded basic” must call Comcast and request the installation of their boxes if we want to continue to receive all of our current channels. I myself have done this, and while Comcast assured me that my monthly fee will remain the same, I will have to wait for my next bill to confirm that.
