Speaker will recite Gospel of Mark

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., will present a performance of the Gospel of Mark Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Gospel will be spoken from memory by Rev. Bert Marshall, the New England director for Church World Service.

The performance is free, but a donation to the food bank will be appreciated.

Spokane City Forum

Spokane First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar St., will present Dan Baumgarten, executive director of Community Minded Enterprises, Wednesday from 11:45 to 1 p.m.

Part of the Spokane City Forum lecture series, Baumgarten will speak on the topic, “Community First: the Way Forward Through Energy, Environmental and Economic Systems Collapse.”

The cost is $10 general admission or $5 for students and includes lunch. Reservations are required by 4 p.m. Monday.

March for Life

Lifeline Ministries will present March for Life, 2009 Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Fourth Memorial Church, 2000 N. Standard St.

The event is the 36th annual march to mark the anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade ruling on Jan. 22, 1973, and will include a time for prayer and inspiration.

Spiritual films

•The St. Joseph Family Center, 1016 N. Superior St., will present “Heart Films: Short Films Which Touch the Human Heart,” Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Barry House on the center’s campus.

The films are documentaries that reflect and discuss what it means to be human.

The cost is free to attend, but please make reservations.

•Lidgerwood Presbyterian Church, 4449 N. Nevada St., will present, “Amazing Grace,” the story of John Newton, the man who wrote the traditional hymn of the same name.

The movie will be shown Friday at 7 p.m. and is rated PG.

Free coffee

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 3307 W. Rowan Ave., will offer free coffee Friday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. in the church’s Fireside Room.

The church said it is doing its part to help the economy by offering free coffee, and friends are invited to attend.

Christian singles

•The Christian Singles Fellowship will hold its monthly meeting Saturday at 7 p.m. at North Addison Baptist Church, 6120 N. Addison St.

This month’s speaker is Phil Altmeyer who will speak on the topic “When You Don’t Shoot Par,” which will discuss discouragement and loneliness.

Spokane Christian Singles will host speed dating Saturday at 3 p.m. for singles ages 20 through 50 and Sunday at 2 p.m. for singles who are 45 and older. Both events will be held at the Ridgeview Christian Center, 5610 N. Ash St.

The cost to attend is $10 for your first visit and $7 for every visit after that.
