Huskies run away from Ducks

Brockman sets UW rebounding mark

Associated Press

EUGENE, Ore. – Isaiah Thomas had 23 points and Jon Brockman became Washington’s all-time leading rebounder in the Huskies’ 84-67 win against Oregon on Thursday.

Justin Dentmon added 22 points – 15 of them in the second half as Washington (12-4, 3-1 Pacific-10 Conference) quickly turned a three-point halftime lead into a double-digit advantage the Ducks could never overcome.

Joevan Catron led Oregon (6-11, 0-5) with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Brockman entered the game needing eight rebounds to break Doug Smart’s school record of 1,051. He finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Brockman put Washington ahead 28-26 with a layup at the 7:23 mark of the first half and the Huskies would eventually lead 40-37 at the break.

Thomas opened the second half with a 3-pointer and Quincy Pondexter, who finished with 15 points, added a layup off a turnover to put the Huskies up 45-37.

A basket from Michael Dunigan and a Tajuan Porter 3-pointer brought Oregon back to within three points, but Brockman sparked a 10-2 run that put the Huskies up 55-44 and the Ducks never got closer than eight points.

Oregon shot 37 percent, committed 20 turnovers and was dominated on the boards in the second half in falling to Washington for the eighth time in the last 11 meetings.

Dunigan and Garrett Sim had 11 points apiece for Oregon.

Earlier, the Huskies announced they will have a home game against Seattle University on March 3 to replace the Lehigh game that was canceled in December.
