Teen dies in wreck; friends plan vigil tonight

CHENEY – A 16-year-old girl died this morning of injuries from a traffic accident that occurred Friday on State Route 195. Lorissa Lynette Green was a sophomore at Cheney High School. Friends are planning to hold a candlelight vigil tonight in her memory. The vigil begins at 8 p.m. near the scene of the accident at Cheney-Spokane Road and SR 195. Green was driving a 1999 Plymouth Breeze, heading eastbound on Cheney-Spokane Road, according to police reports. She headed into the intersection, where she was struck by David L. Blyton, 59, of Spangle. Blyton was headed southbound on SR 195, driving a 2004 GMC pickup and pulling a utility trailer. The accident was reported at 5:26 p.m. Friday. Both vehicles were totaled. Green was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center, where she died. Blyton was treated and released at Deaconess Medical Center.
