Snowstorms and multitasking

The Spokesman-Review

I was watching the news the other day about a snowstorm in the state of New York. What I saw was a garbage truck with a snowplow and it was plowing the street as it did its garbage pickup. What a novel idea, doing two things at once.

There are many flat areas on the north side of Spokane where this could be implemented. Let the Street Department handle the arterials and hills, and leave the flat residential streets to the garbage trucks.

What the city needs to do is hire a consultant for thousands of dollars to do a study to see if it’s feasible. That way the multilayered management at City Hall wouldn’t have to make a decision that they might be held accountable for. Besides, hiring a consultant to do a study could take a year or more and by then everyone will have forgotten about the big snow in December, and everything could continue on as it always has.
