Highway cleared after fatal crash

State Route 904 east of Cheney has been cleared after a fatal crash, Washington State Patrol officials said. It’s the second traffic fatality in Eastern Washington in two days. This morning’s accident involved three cars, authorities said. Coral Muscarella, 52, of Cheney, was found dead at the scene. The cause remains under investigation, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Mark Baker. No alcohol or drugs are suspected. Kimberly Campbell, 19, was westbound on State Route 904 at Purvis Road in a Nissan Pathfinder about 10:15 a.m. when she rear-ended another car then swerved into the oncoming lane of traffic and collided with a Honda Pilot. Muscarella was driving the Honda. On Tuesday, a fatal crash blocked traffic on State Route 17 south of Soap Lake. A 1-year-old girl was killed in the two-car crash involving a suspected drunken driver. Douglas E. McGowan was booked into Grant County Jail for driving under the influence after being treated for minor injuries at a hospital, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Magnussen. About 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, McGowan was headed southbound on State Route 17 south of Soap Lake in his Black GMC pickup when he collided with a northbound Pontiac coupe, authorities said. The child was in the Pontiac. The crash remains under investigation, authorities said.
