Soul queen’s latest hit: her inauguration hat

The hat that managed to eclipse the Queen of Soul at the inauguration Tuesday has prompted thousands of orders.

Luke Song, owner of Mr. Song Millinery in Detroit, said he has “barely had any time to count” how many requests he has gotten since Aretha Franklin belted “America” while wearing his chapeau on national television.

Franklin was not charged for the hat. After all, she helped come up with the concept, wandering around Song’s store and “adding and subtracting to what we had already” to match her coat, he said.
