Get light rail on TARP list

The Spokesman-Review

Spokane and the Valley may have a golden opportunity to receive a large grant from TARP funds to build the Spokane to Liberty Lake light rail transit system.

A portion of the TARP fund is to be for transit and rail. I would suggest that STA, leaders of Spokane, Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake and Spokane County meet ASAP to discuss the idea. A representative from the state and our representatives to Congress should be invited. This meeting should be ASAP as Obama said projects should be ready to go.

I believe that a bond issue put up in a special election for this project, with a clause that no bonds could be sold if a large portion of the cost would not be paid from TARP funds, would pass in a New York minute.
