Climate threat can’t be ignored
The world population is over 6.7 billion.
Depending on the economy, we use between 75 million and 95 million barrels of oil each day.
We use about 6.2 billion tons of coal and 2.7 trillion cubic feet of natural gas each year. Then there is wood usage and rain forest burning worldwide.
Carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere is over 30 percent more than it was at the start of the industrial age. Carbon dioxide takes centuries for natural removal from the atmosphere.
Glaciers are receding all over this planet.
Permafrost is beginning to melt, and if it accelerates, methane levels will increase dramatically.
Deserts are expanding, some over 2 percent each year. The Bush administration recognized the existence of global warming enough to study its risk to our national security. Why the Bush administration sought this national security information and then continued to stall action on this ominous threat, no rational mind can fathom. Those scientists, no longer silenced, working diligently to solve this complex problem, possess no other agenda than to attempt keeping this planet able to sustain life.
